The ART of Green & Eco

South Africa is an amazing country. We are rich in biodiversity, and yet this richness is often not acknowledged or understood. Our biodiversity legislation provides for the protection of our plants and the communities living in relationship with the land, but too often the cities are far removed from the cultural, biological and spiritual heritages which combine to enrich our land. 2010 is the Year of Biodiversity, and, like everywhere in the world, our attention is being turned to the impact we have on our environment. We are being told to be Green and environmentally aware just about every way we turn, but  this is difficult to understand when most of us live lives built on technology and industrialization.

The Awesome Road Trip will explore what local communities and individuals are doing to become more environmentally conscious, and what is being done to achieve the gold medal of environmental awareness: Sustainability. We aim to highlight these initiatives and projects, and hopefully by writing, filming, photographing and by use of digital media inspire others to either contribute to these as they already exist, or start initiatives of their own. It’s all about letting people know that while differences in lifestyle and culture exist, we can mutually benefit from implementing each other’s skills and knowledge.

We’d love to hear about any projects you know about, so why not drop us an email? Tell us about what you have seen that is helping us to lighten our footprint on the land, and help us to make South Africa an international model for innovative and entrepreneurial sustainability of our biological resources.

“Only after the last tree has been cut down.
Only after the last river has been poisoned.
Only after the last fish has been caught.
Only then will you find that
money cannot be eaten.”
